Like a favorite comfy chair, The Recliners put their audiences at ease with their delightful blend of musical genres, ranging from bluegrass to classic country, from Texas swing to honky-tonk, and even an occasional pop or rock standard. Three members of the band now contribute original compositions to their repertoire, also. Audiences connect to The Recliners’ warm three-part vocal harmonies, and revel in their instrumental mix of guitar, banjo, mandolin, resophonic guitar, and upright bass.

 

Headlining the group is vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Deb Carlson, whose voice and charisma onstage keep audiences shouting, “More Deb!” Singer/songwrite/multi-instrumentalist John Whitehead is one of the musical pillars of the group, providing energy and direction to their music. Banjoist/singer/songwriter Rick Swanson takes on emcee duties for the band, and rounds out The Recliners’ three-part “choir.” Resophonic guitar player Scott Washburn is a regular at local jams and an alumnus of numerous dobro camps around the country. Lead guitarist Stew Lelievre dazzles audiences with his smooth and innovative guitar breaks. Tying everything together is bassist Bob Carlson, whose skillfully-played bass riffs put a groove in all of The Recliners’ songs. Hold on tight when Bob takes a bass solo, too!

 

The Recliners have performed together since July, 2006, appearing at local coffee houses, restaurants, and bars. A list of venues where they have charmed audiences includes The Coffee Grounds, Black’s Ford Restaurant, Kip’s Lounge, and The Hat Trick Lounge. They’ve also donated their talents to benefits and fundraisers. The Recliners recently competed in the Race for a Place contest at the MBOTMA Harvest Jamboree in November, 2006.
